Welcome...

This little introductory section tells you a little about the whole construct, our motivation and some stuff I just like to write ... :)

What Is It ?

The Action Replay and it's successors became famous for being one of the best freezer carts developed for the Commodore 64. We are aiming at developing new software which is compatible towards the existing hardware sold by Datel and other companies.
We are also looking to support new hardware which will have additional features, but will be compatible to the old freezer carts aswell.

The new Hardware is already available. Further information you may find here, including ordering information.
These pages will give you full support for the hardware sold by Jens Schoenfeld and we will also try to increase people's interest in the Retro Replay and Action Replay with it's compatibles.

Our Motivation

Why on earth do we people invest so much time into a project for a 20 year old computer ?

Simple: We are fanatics.... :)

The Action Replay has served most of us for about 10-12 years now and ALL OF US were worried now and then about missing capabilities, incompatibilities and bugs ofcourse.

Back in 1993 or so I was talking to Bacchus/FLT about a possible re-engineering of the cart software. Well, 8 years later I found the time to actually do it ... :)

There were some other events which made me actually start the work. One of them was the message that Peter Weiss planned on doing a newly revised hardware. Another happening was the in-scene spreading of the original V4.2 german source codes. Those made it a little easier to add (necessary) comments to the re-assembled pieces I made up and finally changes turned out to be rather easy with a proper development kit (meaning ACME, VICE and a PC for x-assembling).

After a while, Danzig joined me and declared to take over the sprite and chareditor, which was until then not even existing or plain crap. Just around Feb/March 2001, Checky took over the integration of the Turbo Assembler Macro, which was lying around as source code on my HD's.

So finally, with the project going on, quite many people offered their help, added suggestions and bug reports aswell as a lot or morale support.

They boldly go ....

... where no freezer has been before.

By the time of this writing, Jens Schoenfeld has taken over the hardware development for various reasons. Jens is a professional when it comes to comercial hardware design and is selling Amiga Add-Ons mainly. I agreed on supporting his version of the new hardware instead of the one from Peter for several reasons. First of all, out of a sudden, the whole thing became reality. Nobody would have to wait for enough pre-orders to arrive and the already targetted price was possible even with tons of add-ons. Also, a new production series can be started anytime, when there are enough people wanting a new cartridge.

Famous last words

I know the site design really sucks, but hey, I am a coder and don't really concentrate on design stuff. Aswell, you will read many technical details when REALLY reading the manual and the other hardware related pages. If you are interested in C64 hacking in some way, may it be related to coding, cracking, fixing, painting or composing, this new piece of hard- and software will surely serve you very well.

Please, read the FAQ, manual, hardware section and all the other stuff before coming up with questions. If your question is covered there somehow, I usually answer: RTFM ... :)

That's it for the intro ... for a more detailed story of the beginning and a historical view on the softwares originally available from Datel, please read the History Section.
